Captain Morgan

Starting out as sugar cane, the Caribbean locals squeezed out the sweet juices inside before fermenting, distilling and aging to create the very first rum.

But for all privateers, buccaneers and landlubbers alike the thing that matters today is the taste of Captain Morgan’s sumptuous secret recipes.

Rum is created through five essential steps.

1. CREATING MOLASSES FROM THE SUGAR CANE

The juices are squeezed from the sugar cane to create a by-product called molasses.

2. FERMENTATION

Alcohol is created by adding yeast and water to the molasses. The yeast is always carefully chosen to ensure the right taste profile and aroma of the final rum.

3. DISTILLATION

The fermented liquid is heated and condensed in column stills.

4. MATURATION

Some of this liquid will then get its rich colour and flavour by being aged in charred white oak barrels.

5. BLENDING

This is where the Captain comes into his own. To create the smooth taste that he’s known the world over for, some of the finest Caribbean rums are carefully blended.

While the locals of Caribbean islands like Jamaica were squeezing out the sweet sugar cane juices to create molasses, fermenting, distilling and aging to create dark rum, those in Cuba and Puerto Rico were keeping their liquid clear through a very short period of aging after distillation. The result was a refreshing white rum with a subtle and sweet taste.

You can get the true taste of the Captain from his selection of rum drinks, including his Captain Morgan Dark Rum, Captain Morgan White Rum, Captain Morgan Original Spiced Gold and many more.

Enjoy with a simple mixer or go for broke with one of the Captain’s favourite rum drink cocktails.

CAIPIRINHA

This delicious mix of sugar, limes and Original Spiced Gold topped with lashings of ice is the Captain’s take on Brazil’s famous national cocktail. The original Caipirinha recipe was discovered over a century ago and is a refreshing tasting drink for hot, balmy day.

We’ve put a twist on this classic drink and made our own Caipirinha recipe with a dash of good ol’ Captain Morgan Original Spiced Gold in place of the traditional cachaça. Easy to make for your whole crew, a tropical Caipirinha cocktail is a delicious party drink.

To make a Caipirinha worthy of the Captain’s kudos, give the limes a squeeze first to make sure you get all the juicy, good stuff out. Use crushed ice instead of cubes, too, for an authentic drink.

CAPTAIN & COLA

Not just your typical rum and cola recipe, the Captain’s favourite bounty is packed with the perfect combination of the fragrant natural aromas found in Captain Morgan Original Spiced Gold with the lip-smacking vanilla taste of ice-cold cola.

Known more commonly as the Cuba Libre, the origins of this drink were first discovered on the golden shores of the Caribbean in the early 1900s. A favourite in its native Cuba, the humble rum and cola is now drunk far and wide, too, thanks to its simple ingredients and easy recipe that any buccaneer or salty sea dog can follow.

An easy way to make a wickedly good Captain & Cola is to remember; it’s always 2.5 parts Cola to 1-part Captain. Give the lime a squeeze first before dropping it into your bounty for a zestier finish.
