Cointreau is an aromatic feat and owes this impact to a complex blend of orange peel essences. Zesty, fresh, floral, sweet… With a spectrum of more than 40 olfactive notes, Cointreau is a captivating ode to orange on its own and an enhancer of other flavors when mixed.
Cointreau’s flavor profile is a symphony of unexpected dualities: It has an instant freshness yet lingers on the palate, is a harmonious blend of nuanced notes yet remains intensely orange. Excluding delivery feesERDINGER Dunkel first saw the light of day in 1989, when ERDINGER’s master brewers created a dark wheat beer as a birthday present for the private brewery’s owner, Werner Brombach. He liked it so much that he decided to put it on the market in 1990.
This elegant wheat beer has a lustrous, deep dark-brown appearance in the glass. The first sip reveals a harmonious symphony of carefully selected wheat and barley malts with exquisite Hallertau aroma hops. The taste buds detect hints of caramel, nuts and fresh bread. An unmistakable top-fermenting accent is provided by ERDINGER’s traditional yeast.
Like all Erdinger wheat beers, this dark variety also acquires its typical flavor from maturing in the bottle. Years of brewing experience coupled with state-of-the-art technology guarantee its excellent quality.

We exclusively age our eaux de vie in fine grained oak barrels, in order to enhance subtly the delicate fruity aromas of our spirits, crafted from Martell specific distillation method.
When a barrel is called “Red”, a reference to the reddish color of aged wood, it has aged before other eaux-de-vie during at least 2 years up to 8 years, reaching the perfect stage of maturation for both the wood and the spirit.
For Martell VSOP aged in Red Barrels, our cellar master selected only these very rare “red fine grained oak barrels” to age this cognac, highlighting Martell specific ageing style.

Taste | In the mouth, it has a full, broad attack and unveils the same intense fruity tones – small plums and honeymoon peaches and apricots. The fruity flavours are marvellously enhanced by delicate notes of sweet spices from the wood of the russet barrels – the very same barrels that create that perfect balance between the expressiveness of the eaux-de-vie and refinement of the spiced notes. |
Nose | At first, the bouquet is round and fresh, run through by intense fruity notes. The aromas of fresh yellow stone fruits, like cherry plum and baby Reine-Claude, are gently coated by subtle mellowed woody notes. Color |
Deep, dark red |
Nose |
An instant formic lift, elevating a mix of African/Middle Eastern spices – cumin and dried fennel flirting with aromas akin to soaked dill-pickle juice. Less Marananga blueberry and juniper notes detected than normal, yet so many other shiraz variants leap forward to entice ... Intermittent wafts of just-cooked pound cake and a cumquat/apricot-preserve strudel – i.e. innocent fruits in tandem with other ‘niceties’! Oak? A forensic audit may uncover some carefully hidden nutty and ginger notes derived from this source. |
Palate |
A boysenberry/mulberry slurry, almost a coulis, with a smidgeon of cola/creamy soda flavours. Prominent tannins augment and propel an impression of a svelte film of raspberry seeds/pips, to heighten textural appeal. Supportive oak adds weight – contributing structurally yet hesitating to add to the flavour-pool. An ironstone/ferrous (haemoglobin) impression noted on back-palate. |

Excluding delivery feesBin 389 was often referred to as ‘Baby Grange’, in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960 by the legendary Max Schubert, this was the wine that helped forge Penfolds reputation with red wine drinkers by combining the structure of cabernet sauvignon with the richness of shiraz. Exemplifying the judicious balance of fruit and oak, Bin 389 highlights the generous mid-palate Penfolds in known for. This release in 2020 commemorates the 60th anniversary since Bin 389 was first made.

Lifted, fragrant. Immediately Penfolds. Aficionados may quickly identify and proclaim 389. Opulently: Trifle: layers of custard and port-wine dark jelly with flaked coconut and juniper/cassis. Cake: old-fashioned hummingbird cake, with coconut flakes and nutty flavours. Overheard: “Petrichor aromas gradating to silkworm-eaten mulberry leaf”. Honestly!?! Familial youthful Bin 389 oak – subtle matchstick and a hint of vanilla powder. As they say – what is there not to like?! |
Palate |
Balance of the sweet (cabernet) and the savoury (shiraz). Possesses what has now often been referred to as a black forest cake 2018 vintage flavour profile. Darker fruits – closer to that of a black cherry liqueur than a crème de cassis component of Kir. Flavours of roasted beetroot – a venison sauce beetroot reduction ... similar texturally to a congealed sweet fat (a custardy emulsion/film – not a grainy paste). Oak and tannins absorbed. Both are certainly present, yet not at all demanding their own space on this Bin 389 stage. Substantial, intense. |

Palate | Medium-bodied. The complete package: Fruit: Juicy redcurrant jelly, dark plum (and plum acidity), fresh rhubarb. Acidity: ‘Just right’ – a lively and lifted conveyance from initial lip-contact to sated ingestion. Tannins: Integrated, polished-graphite tannins Oak: Seamlessly hidden/concealed oak.
